The vision of the Sarah's Fund for pediatric oncology is to help fulfill the long-term needs of the Hematology/Oncology Division of the Montreal Children’s Hospital and to help its young patients and their families through times of crisis.

More than 92% of the funds raised by Sarah's Fund go directly to Sarah's Floor and to support priority equipment purchases, special projects and other urgent needs of The Children's Hematology/Oncology Division for the well-being of patients and their families.

Since its inception, Sarah's Fund has raised over $8 million through donations, pledges and funds from special events.  The most touching gifts have come from other children using their birthday parties, lemonade stands and puppet shows to generate donations to Sarah's Fund.

Our board and Medical Advisory committee are continually evaluating opportunities to sponsor priority equipment purchases, important services and other urgent needs to ease the care and treatment of young patients and their families battling cancer on Sarah's Floor.  Here are a few that we are actively committed to:

  • Quebec's 1st Inra-Operative MRI is an incredible new addition to one of the operating rooms at the Montreal Children's Hospital.  Construction was completed in fall 2009.  Sarah's Fund committed a million dollars towards the acquisition of this essential piece of equipment, impacting both the Surgeon's effectiveness and the hospital's recruiting ability.  The MRI dramatically improves the care and treatment of children with brain tumours.  By being right in the operating room, the Intra-Operative MRI saves precious time and reduces risk.

  • Art Therapy is a service that Sarah's Fund makes available to all patients admitted to Sarah's Floor at the Children's.  In art therapy, young cancer patients and their families learn to cope with the emotional stress and trauma associated with their disease and its treatment.  During art therapy sessions, children and adolescents gain a sense of control over their lives during a time when everything seems to be spinning out of control.  Your support will help cover the salary for the Art Therapist and art supplies.

  • Sarah's Fund For Families  More than ever, families need financial support to get through the most difficult challenge they have ever faced.  Sarah's Fund helps families in need with meals, special transportation and other unexpected expenses.

  • Buddy Blankets  Sarah's Fund wants to wrap every sick child with warmth and caring.  That is why we are giving every newly diagnosed child on Sarah's Floor at the Montreal Children's Hospital a special cozy Buddy Blanket.  In the spirit of the giving this season, you can help us to wrap ALL children with warmth and caring. You can also purchase a buddy blanket to take home AND WE WILL DONATE A SECOND BLANKET ON YOUR BEHALF to a child at the Children's over the holiday season.  Thank you for being a Buddy!

  • Continuing Education for Nurses is essential in the recruitment and retention of our dedicated medical professionals.  Our mission is to keep Sarah's Floor at the forefront of the Best Cancer Care Possible.

  • Pediatric Head Ring  The Kids for Kids annual party will fund this piece of equipment, which is essential for children undergoing radiation therapy.
