Sarah Cook

Sarah Cook is a young and inspiring computer science and film student from Queen’s University. Following her upcoming graduation, she plans on pursuing a career in Producing: as she loves being involved in every aspect of film production. Along side with film, Sarah has a passion for Philanthropy: especially helping children and their families battling cancer.

At age 8, Sarah was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer in her left leg. After a tough year of numerous surgeries and chemotherapy, her family started Sarah’s Fund of Cedars Cancer Institute. This charity raises money for the Hematology/Oncology ward at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Over the past twelve years, Sarah’s Fund of Cedars Cancer Institute has exceeded expectations by raising over 6 million dollars, which has allowed for the Montreal Children’s Hospital to start new programs like art therapy and Dr. Clown therapy, buy new equipment and renovate the in-patient ward.

Sarah was always an art lover but her passion for film began in grade 12. When being diagnosed again at an older age, Sarah used film as an escape from her reality, from school and chemotherapy. As time passed, the more Sarah watched and the more she became interested in the production side of film. In fact, she began watching the bonus features to find out how her favorite films were created. Although it is hard to select a favorite film, Sarah has noted that her all time favorite movie is Sleepless in Seattle. Films, helped Sarah get through a difficult time in her life and it is her dream to create a feature that will connect and help others going through difficult situations.

At Queen’s, Sarah has had the opportunity to explore her newfound passion for producing by working on student films but has also used her niche for philanthropy by being the head of sponsorship for the annual Vogue Charity Fashion Show as well as the Kingston Canadian Film Festival. Overall, this website displays Sarah’s work in production as well as her success as a philanthropist. Enjoy!
